Healthy Weight Loss Programs – 5 Essential Features to Look for

Posted on August 24th, 2010 in healthy by

Healthy weight loss programs can be hard to find. Far too many mainstream diets appear to expect you to live on starvation rations, to cut out one or more of the major essential food groups, to poison your body with possibly dangerous diet pills, or to eat additive-filled meal replacements. But you don’t have to abuse your body to lose weight. Instead, look for a healthy, balanced weight loss plan that meets the following criteria:

It Should Be Based on Natural, Unprocessed Food

Firstly, a healthy diet program involves eating real food, not synthetic meal replacements, and the food should be as close to its natural state as possible. This means fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, dairy (preferably organic) and other nutrient-rich, unprocessed foods. Any kind of low calorie diet will help you to lose weight, but if you want to remain healthy too, it’s essential to include lots of high quality fresh foods, and to eat enough. So avoid any diet plan that would require you to live on junky processed food or meal replacement drinks – that way of eating just isn’t sustainable over the long term.

It Shouldn’t Involve Diet Pills

Diet pills can sometimes help people to lose weight quickly, but their long term effects on the body are uncertain. Risking your health for short term weight loss is a bad idea, particularly if you don’t change your eating and lifestyle habits. With a healthy diet and moderate amounts of regular exercise, there’s simply no need to pop pills to lose weight, and a healthy weight loss program won’t expect you to.

It Should Include Some Exercise

You can lose weight without exercising, but if you care about your long term health, taking some exercise is essential. Exercise can help to prevent chronic health problems, and it also gives your mood and energy levels an immediate boost. In addition, exercise makes weight loss easier because you’ll burn calories during your workout, your metabolic rate will be increased for some time afterwards, and you’ll build lean muscle tissue, which is more metabolically active than fat – meaning that you burn more calories even when you’re at rest. So for optimal health, ensure that your weight loss program includes at least twenty minutes of exercise three or four days a week.

You Should Eat Enough, and Often Enough

It’s essential to provide your body with enough food when you’re trying to lose weight. Avoid the temptation to skip meals or go on a crash diet, because this puts your body under stress, and will decrease your energy levels, making overeating more likely. If you get into the habit of under-eating, you’re also at risk of malnutrition and losing muscle mass. In addition to the negative effects on your health, skipping meals won’t really help with weight loss, because your body’s metabolic rate will slow. This makes fat loss more difficult, and you’ll be more likely to regain even more weight than you lost when you begin to eat normally again. So for healthy weight loss, eat at least three meals a day (many people find that four or five smaller meals works better), and don’t be tempted to skip any meals.

It Should Stress the Importance of Making Permanent Changes

Any diet plan that depends on faddy short term techniques such as cutting out whole food groups, taking diet pills or drastically reducing calories won’t help you lose weight permanently, and won’t help you to stay healthy over the long term either. For most people, plans of that type are impossible to stick with for very long, because the body eventually rebels, and forces you to eat more just to provide the energy and nutrients that it needs. Any healthy weight loss plan will put the emphasis on making permanent changes in your eating habits, and also eating adequate (but not excessive) amounts of healthy, unprocessed, nutritionally-dense foods.

If you’re in the habit of overeating, or you live on junk foods, changing to such a plan can be challenging, but it is doable, given some time and patience. And it’s definitely worth the effort, because once you’ve established healthy new habits, the weight will stay off, and you’ll be free from the yoyo cycle of weight gain and loss for ever. And you’ll feel great too!

So if you want to lose weight, keep it off, and be vibrantly healthy too, look for a health-focused weight loss plan that avoids short term gimmicks and instead encourages you to do what’s best for your body.

The Rising Price of Healthcare Costs

Posted on August 24th, 2010 in healthcare by

Healthcare costs are rising every year. In 2007, the basic costs associated with healthcare increased by 6.9 percent which is double the rate of inflation in United States. On average, a US citizen would spend around $7500 per year on medical expenses. These expenditures coupled with inefficient administration of healthcare facilities around the nation has resulted in the US government spending 16 percent of its budget on healthcare related issues.

Most experts agree that unlike the developed counties in Europe and Canada the US healthcare system is fraught with poor administration, lack of management and subsequent fraudulent transactions. Such inefficiencies directly affect the related health costs that have to come on the expense of general public. That’s not it! The total expenditures and the associated costs are expected to claim one fifth of the 2008 GDP budget. This is a whopping 20 percent increase from 2007. In numerical figures this increase represents 4.2 Trillion dollars from the tax payer’s pocket.

Comparison with other developed nations

If the numbers doesn’t look staggering than consider the fact that recent healthcare spending is four times the defense expenditures of the nation. Such an anomaly looks more daunting when we consider the equation that Uncle Sam is spending an entire arsenal on war on terror. Still, the healthcare costs far exceed any other public sector spending. For those who still debate that healthcare situation has been inflated by the media, they should realize that nearly 47 million Americans are still uninsured. What would happen if America had to cover their expenses, too? Compare this with other developed countries that provide free healthcare for their entire population. According to the Organization of Economic development the healthcare costs in similar economies like France, Germany, Canada and Switzerland is less than 10 percent of the GDP. Such figures clearly dictate that Congress has to drastic measures in order to get out of the recent healthcare crisis.

Beauty Tips and Lip Plumping

Posted on August 24th, 2010 in beauty cosmetics by

Lip have been the most important part of a woman’s beauty since past. Every girl today admires one or the other actresses in the Hollywood and wishes to have lips like theirs. These actresses have a specialty of having protruded lips or full lips. Every girl wishes to have these full lips. These lips increase the beauty of their lips and make them more kissable and lustrous. Moreover they apply cosmetic to their lips to make them further more beautiful. Cosmetics like lip gloss, lipsense, lip pencil, etc are used for this purpose. Lip gloss moisturizes the lips and make them prevents them from dryness. Some lip glosses which contain oil also provides shininess to the lips and make them look more beautiful and lustrous. Lipsense imparts a semi permanent color to the lips and make them look attractive. Unlike the normal lip stick, lip sense penetrates the epidermal layer of the lips and the color becomes more effective and does not smear off easily. Lip pencil is a cosmetic which outlines the lip line and distinguish the shape of the lips on the face of the woman.

Woman who do not have full lips naturally can adopt one of the techniques used for making lips into full lips like lip augmentation, lip coloring, lip implants etc. but these techniques have their own side effects. Thankfully a technique called lip augmentation has been introduced recently. Through this technique one can achieve fuller lips easily and that too without any side effects. More over, it does not alter the look of the lips and makes them look as natural as they were before applying the technique. A great plumper is a must for effective plumping of lips. Lips plumper which contain harsh drying agents are strictly not suggested. Hydration is very important to keep the lip plump. A lot of water should be drunk from time to time to keep the lips wet and moisturized. While applying the plumper, the mouth should be opened as wide as it can be so that the plumper does not creates cracks on the lips. But they should not be over opened because it will result in the formation of blisters on the lips. They actually inject the plumping agent into the skin of the lips and make them protrude. Though they do not have any side effects but then also they should be applied carefully.

Cook a basic ‘all-you-can-eat’ soup first. In a nonstick saucepan pour some water and add pieced carrots, onion, celery and garlic.

Cook it for 8 to 10 minutes until the vegetables softens. Then add tomatoes with its sides slit open along with chopped cabbages and green beans. Pour more water and broth and add salt and pepper for taste.

Cover the saucepan and let it boil. When all the vegetables turn soft your soup is ready to put in boneless chicken chunks to it.

Add some cumin seeds and corns and heat the soup to boil again. When chicken becomes tender simmer it for few minutes with crumbled tortilla chips. Finally serve with sprinkled cilantro and lime juice on it.

Vegetable Soup

Beauty Treatments and Skin Care

Posted on August 19th, 2010 in beauty cosmetics by

The balance of the skin can be upset by many different factors. For example, over exposure to the sun may cause the skin to become dry and brittle. Many people who enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle tend to face such skin problems. Then there are those who suffer from oily skin problems due to genetics. They have naturally oily skin and the excess oil needs to be removed on a consistent basis.
Aloe Vera is a plant which has been known to be an effective skin care treatment for centuries. Aloe Vera has anti inflammatory and anti bacterial qualities; it soothes the pain of burns and wounds and promotes faster healing.

Collagen is a connective tissue found in healthy youthful skin. Collagen helps the skin retain moisture giving it a fuller, firmer appearance. The bestanti aging skin care includes collagen as an ingredient. Most often the collagen comes from sheep.
If your acne condition is only moderate and not serious, then you can go for the over-the-counter type of medications. But please do seek the help of a dermatologist if your acne has reached a severe state, where he will recommend some prescription medications. However, it is still advisable to go for the prescription method even if your acne is mild, because the prescription method tends to be much more effective than what over-the-counter method can offer.
Improving your food and water intake helps your entire body, and your skin is no exception. Drinking more water has the immediate benefit of increased hydration. Well-hydrated skin looks younger – you can practically see the water in the skin of teenagers, and it’s fairly easy to guess someone’s age by how naturally moist their skin is. Break the pattern by making sure your skin is moist, no matter what your age.
Skin starts to lose its elasticity and lines and wrinkles appear. HA plays a critical role in the rapid repair of wounds and other skin conditions. It is due to the slowing down of cell mitosis, crucial aspect of alveolar repair and regeneration. Healthy, youthful skin comes from the inside. By replacing the components that naturally deplete with age, we can backward the signs associated with aging.
For extremely oily skin, only oily skin care products are suitable. Your oily skin care routine can include an alcohol based toner (for an extremely oily skin). This can be the second step in your oily skin care routine i.e. just after cleansing. However, excessive toning can harm your skin.

Commercial Spa Versus A Home Spa

Posted on August 16th, 2010 in beauty spa by

Being fortunate enough to make regular visits to health spas, massage spas and beauty spas is wonderful, but not everyone is so lucky! Lets face facts – health spas are very pricey for either a holiday or a day visit and for most people, it is a once in a life-time experience. The great news is that there are ways you can create the same experience in the privacy of your own home.

From a few thousand dollars and up you can purchase a spa to install in your own home. These are fantastic as either indoor or outdoor units and combined with a few extra tips and tricks, can definitely give you the benefits of a health spa holiday. They are fairly easy to clean, don’t cost too much to run and once you have installed them, there is no more to pay and you can use it anytime.

If installing a home spa is not an option for you because of space or finances, there is a revolutionary invention that will resolve these issues. It is a portable home health spa device that you can use in your very own bathtub! You can move it from one tub to another, so everyone in the family can use it and you can easily take it with you when you move. The jets are relaxing, rejuvenating and can have your tub bubbling in a minute or two. There are even heat settings to keep the water warm while you enjoy the tub for a lengthy time. These portable home spas are a fraction of the price of a permanent fixture or long term spa visits.

Whichever option you choose, there are a few things you will need to do to prepare for your home health and beauty spa pampering. First, choose your products: You will want a scrub for your face and body, a cleansing mask, several clean, dry towels, shampoo and a hair treatment, a loofah or body brush, nail scrubber, facecloths, floor mats, bath oils or salts and plenty of our favorite moisturizers. When you have all of these things ready, do the following:

oPut on a robe or wrap a large towel around yourself and a smaller one around your hair.

oWet your face with lukewarm water and wipe it over with a facecloth.
Begin with a small amount of facial scrub to determine how much you will need to cover your face, neck and collarbones.

oGently exfoliate your skin in these areas in a circular motion – first in one direction, then the other. Do this for three minutes or less if the skin begins to feel sensitive.

oWipe the scrub product gently from your face with a warm, wet facecloth. Rinse and repeat wiping until your skin feels clean.

oNext, apply a liberal layer of face mask to your face, neck and collarbone area and leave it to draw any toxins from your skin and add nutrients.

oUse a clean, damp facecloth to wipe over your whole body with the purpose of dampening your skin (Avoiding areas with mask on them). You want to keep the cloth full of fresh warm water so it opens your pores up ready to clean.

oNow apply the body scrub in circular motions concentrating on one limb at a time. By the time you have finished your feet, your face mask should be ready to remove and you can hop in the shower. Give your body a good all over rinse in the shower and wash your hair.

oHop out of the shower and dry your body and lightly dry your hair. Apply a liberal amount of your chosen hair treatment and wrap a towel around your head. You are now ready to hop in your home spa!

Add the recommended amount of your bath oil or salts to the water, get your towels ready for when you get out and you’re ready to go for it!

You might want to have some soft, slow music on to deepen the meditation. Relax in your health and beauty spa until your fingers begin to go a bit wrinkly from the water. Then hop out, dry yourself off and jump in the shower to quickly rinse your hair and body.

Apply moisturizer to your skin all over your face and body, put on comfy clothes and slippers and take some time to read a good book or do an outdoor meditation. What a luxurious time you have just had in your own home spa!

Although having a spa resort holiday is an amazing experience, with a home spa, you can use it regularly to get the most out of it. Once you have it set up, the only money you have to spend is on a few beauty products and you can crawl straight into your own bed if you like, completely relaxed, afterwards. If you are interested in setting up a home health and beauty spa for the lowest cost, visit http://www.hydrospabusiness.com today and you could be living a life of luxury in no time!

Healthy Balanced Diet

Posted on August 14th, 2010 in healthy by

A healthy diet is essential to maintain your health and a normal weight. However, unlike what many believe, eating well does not mean abandoning all tasty foods, or give up on all foods you like; it is, instead, choosing a variety of foods from all groups such as fruits, vegetables, grains, unsaturated fats, soy products, etc. consume abundantly grain products, vegetables and fruits. Eat mostly foods low in fat. Adopting such as diet can improve your health and prevent a variety of illnesses.

Today, all nutritionists agree on at least seven groups of foods that your body needs to function properly. Along with healthy lifestyle (do not smoke, exercise regularly, etc.) the following foods can bring a miraculous change in your health:

Green leafy vegetables : they are rich in folate, one of the B complex vitamins which is essential for women planning a pregnancy. They are also a good source of lutein, an antioxidant that reduces the risk eye problems. In addition, green leafy vegetables are good source of vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, fibers, and other vitamins and minerals your body needs to function properly.

Whole Grains: These foods are often overlooked, yet whole grains contain fiber that is vital to your intestinal health. They also contribute in reducing the risk of diabetes, colon cancer, high blood pressure, and ulcers.

Soybeans:The soybeans and Soy protein products contain phytoestrogens, which shown in many studies to have properties to prevent or slow the development of heart disease, high cholesterol and certain cancers. In addition, soybeans contain carbohydrate, fat, protein, vitamins, and minerals (iron, calcium, folic acid, etc.).

Fruits – Fruits, especially when they are fresh, are good for your health. Rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, they are essential to protect your body free radical damages and reduce the risk of many diseases: cancer, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and more. It is recommended by nutritional experts to eat at least 5 fruits a day.

Crucifers: they are the best sources of antioxidants and phytochemicals. Certain crucifers are also rich in folic acid, fiber and vitamin C. in addition, some crucifers such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage are rich in dithiolthiones and isothiocyanates, potent substances that contribute in the prevention of certain cancers: breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, etc..

Tomatoes: studies have shown that individuals with high levels of lycopene in their blood were less likely to develop prostate cancer (men) and cervical cancer (women). Every day eat as many tomatoes as possible you can.

Yellow foods: fruits and yellow vegetables such as carrots, peppers, squash and mangoes are rich in beta carotene, an antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals. Yellow colored foods help also support the nervous system, and function of the liver and intestines.

Omega-3 : omega-3 fatty acids are mostly found in flax seed and fish oil. When taken as suggested, omega3 can improve your skin health and prevent cardiovascular problems (heat attack, formation of blood clots, etc.). Many studies have shown that these healthy oils are able to slow the progression of many cancer cells. Flax oil may protect your body against certain inflammatory diseases such as arthritis. Omega 3 may also promote the development and proper functioning of the brain.

However, it is not easy to take all these foods in a simple diet; you need a supplement that combines all of them.  At vitalfoodstore.com, you can find a variety of supplements for you and all your family. To learn more, visit vitalfoodstore.com, or click on the link in the resource box below.

Medical Tourism ? Quality Healthcare Away From Home

Posted on August 14th, 2010 in healthcare by

Everyday thousands of people from the US and Europe are waking up to the phenomenon called medical tourism that has become quite a rage in recent times. The practice of visiting new places in search of favorable climate or on just being advised by a doctor to go ‘on a change’ is not new. Medical tourism is just an evolved form of this age old habit of humanity.

Medical tourism combines care for your health with international tourism. The primary reason behind its surging popularity is better healthcare services at an affordable budget. When one’s health is one’s concern, it is natural to look for the best treatment options within one’s budget. Countries such as India are fast coming to the forefront as provider of world-class healthcare facilities. These include a wide array of highly skilled healthcare professionals, trained in various specialized disciplines, state-of-the-art equipment and modern amenities, impeccable service and personal attention to every need of the patient and all these, at a cost that’s surprisingly affordable.

Most people in need of specialized healthcare services feel daunted by the high cost associated with them. Countries such as US, Canada or some European nations, offer the same high standard healthcare facilities as India, Malaysia or Dubai, at a cost that’s substantially greater. Let’s face it, not everybody can afford the high cost associated with healthcare services in his or her own country. Nor do all of us enjoy the benefits of a high medical insurance coverage.

All this naturally necessitates the need to look for similar healthcare services elsewhere, where the cost is significantly lower. Healthcare tourism makes it possible to save up to 80% (as compared to US/UK) on medical costs by opting for countries like India. Healthcare tourism in India is fast gaining in popularity because of this simple reason.

Medical tourism also gives you other advantages such as reduced waiting periods for your treatment. If there is a critical treatment involved, or an operation that needs to be done quickly, you can initiate the process almost immediately after contacting the healthcare professionals in these countries. Most hospitals or medical establishments in the US or UK have lengthy waiting lists and necessitate wait for a substantially longer period of time.

Smart and well-informed professionals, speaking fluent English and attending to every detail with meticulous attention, only add to the overall experience. You can rest assured knowing that the task of caring for your health is in good, able hands. You will also find comfort in the thought that when you are fully treated and about to return home, you will not be handed bills that will make you fall sick all over again.

So what are the reasons that contribute to the ever increasing popularity of medical tourism? Exorbitant cost of healthcare and medical facilities in advanced countries, ease and affordability of international travel, favorable currency exchange rates in the global economy, rapidly improving technology and high standards of medical care in the developing countries – all of these have contributed to the rapid development of medical tourism.

Simon Churchgate is a veteran in Internet marketing and a wordsmith par excellence with countless articles on a wide range of subjects to his credit. He is a big enthusiast of medical tourism.
